How We Work

SPIRAL Community Hub operates strongly from a community development framework. We work with local communities to identify what sort of programs best fit them to achieve 'sustainable livelihood and best practice environmental outcomes.

This often means that programs are developed with communities that have very high results as there is significant interest and commitment from community groups. For instance the community development processes undertaken within the Eritrean community from 2004 assisted them to first establish a catering business and then start a restaurant in 2008.

The restaurant trained and employed more than 80 women who've arrived in Australia as refugees and continue to provide the African community with ongoing social and economic benefit. Many women have gained their first employment in Australia in the restaurant before being able to move in to other employment.
